In order to avoid an environmental disaster, GC Corporation “Gazenergostroy” will soon start pumping lye from emergency storage units of the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill.
The level of black lye at the plant is critical. Hazardous waste may end up in Lake Baikal.
Currently, the repair of tanks for subsequent pumping of accumulated waste is being completed.
The work started as part of an agreement signed between the government of the Irkutsk Region and “Gazenergostroy”.
