The meeting was dedicated to organizational aspect of scientific support for the assessment of technological solutions for waste management and neutralization of JSC “Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill (BPPM)”, specifically while following the best international practices.
Viktoriya Valerievna Abramchenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, had already given the proper instructions to take the measures listed. A decision to involve the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was also supported by Igor Ivanovich Kobzev, acting Governor of the Irkutsk Region.
Such cooperation will ensure that the option is chosen objectively and allow for implementing technical solutions, which in turn is geared towards complying with strict requirements of nature protection legislation in the Baikal natural territory.
In addition, a number of promising areas of cooperation were outlined. These included: technology development for reclamation of lands polluted with highly dangerous substances (such as mercury), biomedical waste treatment and improvement of complex composition sewage treatment solutions that had already been realized by the Corporation.
